Joints, fittings and nearby finished areas are protected from spray and debris. Removed coating is collected with the washwater, and the handling method reflects the material that has been stripped. Using water without abrasive does not make the resulting washings automatically uncontaminated.
Surface condition before recoating
The stripped area is checked against the requirements of the next coating system. Remaining contamination, moisture and flash rust may need further attention. Retained coatings or inaccessible edges are identified. Visible coating removal alone does not establish that the surface is ready for new paint.
